Preparations

Saturday we had our first large team meeting. I think there were about 30 of us able to attend (out of the 40 or so planning to go on the trip). It was nice to get to meet everyone face to face after having so much “virtual” communication via email. After we opened with prayer and a little running, the worship team (meeting for the first time) led a few songs and then it was down to business. Each committee told us how plans were coming together and it sounds like we are well on our way!

There is still a lot to be finalized, but it was nice to hear how things are progressing and have a better understanding of what to expect and where we stand. It also sounds like our fund raising efforts have been blessed!

I meant to bring my camera to the meeting for a photo or two that I could post here but forgot it so you’ll still have to wait for pics. I promise that we’ll have one (or more) on the trip with us!

I am Laureen Bodnar from Northminster and the worship leader for mission trip. It was a pleasure to meet my team face to face on Saturday and even share in a little musical impromptu. My 10-y/o son, Luke, was to attend the mission trip. We had to break the disappointing news to him Saturday night that no one under 14 is permitted in the Long Beach area. He was, to say the least, devastated. I am hoping to use this blog to keep him connected to the team somehow so he still feels like a part of the team. Maybe he, Peter, and other young folks that can't go can keep us posted on what's happening in the Burgh while we're gone. It will be difficult leaving my family but it will be joyful helping other ones.

I can't believe I got here to say that I am very excited for you and the team! We can't wait to hear what God is doing in the South and what He will do through each of you. Our prayers are with all of you! Thanks for being His hands and heart to some hurting people! Mary Ann & Bob Speer
